[UPDATED] State Department to Raise Consular Services Fees

UPDATE (05.31.23): The State Department has announced that it will postpone the consular service fee increase for processing most non-immigrant visa (NIV) applications and Border Crossing Card fees for Mexicans aged 15 and older. The fee increase will now take effect on June 17, 2023, rather than May 30, 2023.

The State Department has announced the publication of its final rule raising most nonimmigrant visa (NIV) application processing fees, along with the Border Crossing Card fee for Mexican citizens aged 15 and older.

The rule will take effect on May 30, 2023.  When it does, the following fee changes will occur:

  • The application processing fee for non-petition-based NIVs (except E) will increase from $160 to $185
  • The fee for E category NIVs will increase from $205 to $315
  • The application processing fees for H, L, O, P, Q, and R category NIVs will increase from $190 to $205
  • Border Crossing Card processing fees for Mexican citizens aged 15 and up will increase from $160 to $185

No price change is expected for the exchange visitor waiver of the two-year residency requirement, which will still have a fee of $120.
