Canada: Expansion to the Francophone Mobility Program

Key Points

  • Canada expanded the Francophone Mobility program for a period of two years on 15 June 2023

Overview

The government of Canada expanded the Francophone Mobility program for a period of two years on 15 June 2023. Through the program, Canadian employers are permitted to make a job offer to an eligible candidate with a moderate command of the French language (Level 5) for all National Occupation Classification roles except for jobs in primary agriculture.

Applicants must provide proof that they meet all language requirements by providing one of the following:

  • A French evaluation test or French competency test;
  • A Diploma or degree from a French college or university; or
  • A document confirming studies at a French-language institution.

What are the Changes?

The government of Canada expanded the Francophone Mobility program to include additional French speakers. Previously, only highly skilled French-speaking temporary foreign workers were eligible for the program. According to the government, this expansion will increase work opportunities in Canada and qualify more foreign nationals for permanent residence there.
