Canada: Replacement Immigration Documents for Those Damaged by Wildfires

Overview  

The government of Canada announced that it will issue free replacement documents for individuals directly impacted by the wildfires in the country. These documents include permanent resident and temporary resident cards, Canadian citizenship certificates, Canadian passports and other travel documents. Foreign nationals impacted by the fires that meet the following conditions can also apply, restore or extend their status in Canada free of charge: 

  • International students, temporary workers and other visitors whose status expires on 30 September 2023

What are the Changes?  

The Canadian government will issue free replacement immigration documents if previous documents are destroyed or damaged. According to the government announcement, this will allow temporary workers to extend their status until the workplace opens and allow international students to extend their study permits if classes are delayed or canceled.
