Australia: Working Holiday Visa for UK Citizens
Key Points
- Australia introduced a three-year working holiday visa for UK citizens and BNO holders
Overview
The government of Australia announced that starting 1 July 2024, UK citizens and British National Overseas (BNO) passport holders can receive up to three separate Working Holiday (Subclass 417) visas without needing to undertake “specified work.”
Previously, applicants needed three to six months of specified work to qualify for a second or third Working Holiday visa. This requirement no longer applies, increasing the flexibility of the WHV for UK passport holders.
UK passport holders can apply for their three WHVs at any time as long as they meet the eligible age requirement of 18 to 35 years. If they have already spent one or two years in Australia on a WHV before 1 July 2024, they can apply for the remaining WHV visas under this new arrangement, allowing them to stay for a maximum of three years.
