Norway: Tightening of the Collective Protection Scheme

- Norway tightened measures for collective protection for individuals from Ukraine living in certain parts of Norway
Overview
The government of Norway announced that as of 28 September 2024, collective protection will no longer be granted to individuals from Ukraine living in areas deemed safe by Norwegian authorities.
This change does not affect those who applied before this date or those already granted collective protection whose residence permits are being extended. It also does not apply to medically evacuated individuals, their relatives or close family members of those with collective protection.
The safe areas currently identified by Norwegian authorities include:
- Lviv
- Volyn
- Zakarpattia
- Ivano-Frankivsk
- Ternopil
- Rivne
This year, about 10% of applicants for collective protection reported living in these areas. Individuals from safe areas will now need to apply for individual protection, which has stricter requirements.
