Canada Announces Changes to Express Entry System

Key Points

  • Canada will eliminate additional CRS points for job offers in Express Entry profiles, affecting eligible candidates

Canada’s New Comprehensive Ranking for Express Entry

Effective 25 March 2025, Canada implemented changes to the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) for both current candidates in the Express Entry pool and future applicants. These changes impact all candidates with job offers, awarding points as follows:

  • 200 points are awarded for job offers in occupations classified under Major Group 00 of the National Occupation Classification matrix. Examples include senior management positions.
  • 50 points: For job offers in any other skilled occupation.

Candidates with qualifying job offers in their Express Entry profiles will have the additional CRS points for these job offers removed. The change officially takes effect on 25 March 2025. However, CRS points may take a few days to update in profiles after that date.

Candidates without qualifying job offers will no longer be able to gain additional CRS points for this factor after March 25, 2025. This change does not impact eligibility to stay in the pool.

Valid Invitations to Apply (ITA) that have not been declined remain unaffected by this change. They will remain eligible for their specific round of invitations.
