Canada: Expansion of Open Work Permit Program for Residents of Hong Kong

Overview
The government of Canada extended and expanded the country’s open work permit program for residents of Hong Kong. As a result, residents of Hong Kong will be permitted to apply for an open work permit if the applicant has graduated from a post-secondary learning institution in Canada or abroad within the last ten years.
The open work permit permits a maximum stay of three years. Applications under the program will be accepted until 7 February 2025.
Family members, including spouses, common-law partners and dependent children will also be eligible to apply for a work and study permit.
What are the Changes?
The government of Canada expanded its open work permit program for residents of Hong Kong on 6 February 2023. According to the government, these efforts were made in an effort to allow more skilled workers to be hired throughout Canada.
