The government of Canada further reduced diplomatic staff to its embassy offices in India on 19 October 2023. As a result, the number of staff in India will be reduced from 27 to five. The government will continue accepting and processing applications from India, but reduced staffing levels are expected to impact processing times. Individuals in India can expect to see some delays over the next few months. This includes delays in: 

• overall processing times 
• responses to their enquiries 
• getting their visas or passports returned 

What are the Changes? 

On 19 October 2023, the Canadian government significantly reduced the number of diplomatic staff throughout India. According to the government announcement, this decision was made due to India’s intent to unilaterally remove immunities for all but 21 Canadian diplomats and dependents in Delhi.
