Canada: Temporary COVID-19 Work Permit Measures Ended
Key Points
- Effective immediately, Canada ended its temporary measures that allowed foreign nationals to submit a work permit form while in the country
End of Temporary COVID-19 Work Permit Measures
The government of Canada ended measures that allowed visitors to apply for a work permit from within Canada. These measures went into effect immediately on August 28, 2024.
The temporary measure was set to expire on February 28, 2025. However, the government ended it early as part of Canada’s efforts to preserve the integrity of its immigration system.
The policy was originally introduced in August 2020 to mitigate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, which left many foreign nationals unable to travel.
Canadian authorities will continue to process all applications submitted under this policy before August 28, 2024.
