Costa Rica: Measures to Reduce Passport Processing Backlogs

Overview
The government of Costa Rica introduced new plans to temporarily increase the processing time for the issuance of biometric passports to Costa Rican nationals to 30 calendar days. Previously, these passports were issued within 15 business days. The government also announced that it may reject passport renewal applications that are submitted by applicants currently holding a passport that remains valid for a year or more.
What are the Changes?
The government of Costa Rica introduced new timelines for the submission and processing of passport documents in order to reduce passport processing backlogs. These measures will remain in place until 31 August 2024.
