Denmark: Income Requirements for Hospitality Workers

Key Points

  • Denmark updated its salary income conditions for foreign national interns working in the hotel and restaurant industry

Updated Salary Conditions for Interns

Starting 1 April 2024, Denmark’s government adjusted how it assesses salary conditions for foreign interns in the hotel and restaurant industry, along with clarifying professional connection assessments.

Foreign interns are now categorized into two groups: those still in education and graduates. For interns in education, salary will be deemed normal if it meets the first or second level of the current Student Agreement between HORESTA and 3F. Graduates’ salaries will be compared to unskilled workers’ levels in the Restaurant or Hotel Agreement.

Additionally, the government clarified the professional connection assessment, stating that relevant subjects must equal one semester’s worth of credits if an educational program does not inherently support the internship.
