Denmark: Late Submission of Brexit Applications Put on Hold
Key Points
- Denmark temporarily pauses UK citizen applications without valid excuse but continues processing those with reasonable explanations
Overview
The government of Denmark will temporarily hold applications from UK citizens who failed to meet the deadline without a valid excuse, but will continue to process applications with reasonable explanations.
As a result, the government will temporarily pause pending applications for new residence documents submitted by UK citizens and dependent family members that were submitted after 31 December 2021 with no reasonable purpose for having not met the deadline due to Brexit.
The government will continue to process pending applications that were submitted with reasonable purpose for not having met the deadline.
What are the Changes?
The government of Denmark aims to resolve the issue of UK citizens and their relatives who missed the deadline to apply for new residence documents under the EU-UK Withdrawal Agreement on December 31, 2021. The proposed solution will only cover UK citizens who were legally residing in Denmark under EU freedom of movement rules before the end of the transition period on December 31, 2020.
