Denmark: New Residence Cards for Third-Country Nationals

  • Denmark will require certain third-country nationals who are family members of a European Union (EU) citizen to replace residence cards 

Overview  

The government of Denmark will require certain third-country nationals who are family members of a European Union (EU) citizen to replace residence cards. These measures will apply to the cards issued on the following dates: 

  • Cards issued before 1998.  
  • Cards issued between 1998 and 2011.  
  • Cards issued from 3 August 2016 to 3 August 2021.  

These measures will apply even if the current residence card has no expiration date. New residence cards must be acquired by 3 August 2023. For further information on the application and renewal process, check here.  

What are the Changes?  

The government of Denmark released new guidelines and requirements for holders of certain residence cards. According to the government announcement, these measures are due to new safety requirements for residence cards.
