Finland: Changes to the EU Blue Card
Key Points
- Finland introduced changes to its EU Blue Card policy on 13 May 2024, including new salary levels
Overview
The government of Finland introduced changes to its EU Blue Card rules on 13 May 2024. These changes include:
- Introducing a new professional experience pathway: Applicants are now eligible for an EU Blue Card if they have five years of professional experience in a relevant field, even without relevant educational qualifications. Previously, only those with a three-year university qualification could apply.
- Reducing job offer durations: Employment contracts now only need to be six months long, down from the previous 12-month minimum.
- Lowering minimum salary level: The minimum salary for an EU Blue Card is now aligned with the minimum salary for the country’s domestic Specialist Permit (EUR 3,638 gross per month in 2024). Previously, the EU Blue Card minimum salary was 1.5 times this amount.
