Hungary: 2024 Immigration Law Changes

  • Hungary will introduce new immigration law regulations on 1 January 2024 that will result in reduced visa processing for several months  

Overview  

The government of Hungary will introduce new immigration law regulations on 1 January 2024. These changes will include redefining residence permit categories, their names, and new eligibility criteria.  

As a result of these changes, the country’s immigration office will not accept immigration applications from 1 January 2024 until 29 February 2024. The government will extend the validity of residence permits set to expire between 1 January 2024 and 29 February 2024 until 30 April 2024.    

These changes were previously scheduled to go into effect on 1 September 2024.
