Ireland: 100 New Permits Opened for Lineworkers
Key Points
- Ireland introduced new quotas for General Employment Permits issued to Lineworkers
Overview
On 7 September 2023, the government of Ireland introduced new quotas for General Employment Permits (GEP) issued to Lineworkers. As a result, 100 additional permits have been approved for these positions.
A Lineworker is a specialized role in the construction and maintenance of overhead electrical transmission and distribution facilities that deliver electrical energy to industrial, commercial and residential premises.
What are the Changes?
The Irish government expanded the number of GEPs available to foreign nationals working in Lineworker occupations throughout the country. According to the announcement, these measures will help to relieve the pressure placed on line framework contractors.
Looking Ahead
The Irish government will continue to review its occupations list to help support sectors experiencing labor shortages throughout the country. Continue to check the government of Ireland’s website and Envoy’s website for the latest updates and information.
