The government of Ireland introduced a range of measures to accelerate the international protection application processing timeline. Beginning 31 January 2024, nationals of Botswana and Algeria will be designated safe countries of origin when making claims for international protection in Ireland. Currently, this list includes:
- Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo, Macedonia (Former Yugoslav Republic of), Montenegro, Serbia and South Africa.
