Ireland Updates Residence Permission Registration Process

  • Starting 13 January 2025, foreign nationals must complete all first-time residence permission registrations in person at the Burgh Quay Registration Office in Dublin

Requirement to Register Irish Immigration Residence Permission 

Starting 13 January 2025, first-time registrations for all types of residence permission in any county in Ireland must be done in person at the Burgh Quay Registration Office in Dublin. Until 31 January 2025, applicants with existing appointments can still attend their local Garda registration office. 

Residence permission renewals continue to be processed nationwide online via the Immigration Service Delivery (ISD) portalApplicants can renew their registration up to 12 weeks before expiry through the ISD online renewal portal without needing to attend the Burgh Quay Registration Office.

First-time Registration: 
  • Register online via the Digital Contact Centre to book an appointment at the Burgh Quay Registration Office. 
  • Bring your passport, a completed address form, and printed copies of required supporting documents. 
  • Pay the €300 registration fee by credit or debit card (no contactless or cash payments). 
Transition Details: 
  • Until 31 January 2025, first-time registration appointments at local Garda stations remain valid. 
  • Starting 1 February 2025, foreign nationals must complete any first-time registrations at the Burgh Quay Registration Office.
  • Check with the Garda Station for confirmed appointments or transfer to Burgh Quay by creating an account on the Digital Contact Centre. 
Renewal Process: 
  • The government processes all renewal applications online via the ISD portal. 
  • Ireland will accept renewal applications up to 12 weeks prior to expiry.
