Japan: Online Passport Renewal Option

- Japan introduced a new online option for completing the renewal process for passports
Overview
As of 27 March 2023, the government of Japan will permit eligible individuals to submit passport renewals online through the government-operated Mynaportal and My Number Card service. Individuals will qualify for online renewal if one of the following circumstances is met:
- The current passport validity is less than one year; or
- If three or more pages are blank within the visa section of the current passport.

What are the Changes?
The government of Japan will allow eligible individuals to complete online passport renewals. Previously, the passport renewal process required applicants to appear in person before the passport could be renewed.
