Updated Citizenship Rules for Kuwait
Kuwait published decree-into-law 116/2024, amending the Amiri Decree 15/1959 on citizenship. Key provisions include:
- Foreign nationals seeking Kuwaiti citizenship cannot file for a spouse’s nationality, but their minor children become Kuwaitis and can choose another nationality in adulthood.
- Foreign national women marrying Kuwaitis cannot acquire Kuwaiti nationality.
- Citizenship can be rescinded for fraud, counterfeiting, false statements, criminal convictions or state security concerns. Relatives of those who lose citizenship also lose it.
