Malaysia: Digitization of Immigration Procedures
Key Points
- Malaysia will require all companies sponsoring a foreign national to submit a number of immigration-related tasks online
Overview
Beginning 1 July 2024, the government of Malaysia will mandate companies sponsoring foreign nationals to use its online platform for various immigration-related tasks. These include:
- Amending approved applications;
- Shortening or canceling passes;
- Transferring endorsement or adjusting take-up balances; and
- Applying for permissions to study or work at a second location.
Previously, the ESD required online filing only for Employment Pass, Professional Visit Pass, Dependent’s Pass and Long-Term Social Visit Pass applications. The expanded online system now covers additional applications, offering companies a more efficient way to handle these processes without needing to visit the Malaysian Immigration Department in person.
