Mexico: Measures to Improve Consular Service Offices

• The government of Mexico introduced new support measures for Mexican nationals visiting a Mexican consulate office beginning in May 2023

Overview  

The government of Mexico will launch new support measures at Mexican consulates throughout North America beginning in May 2023. These measures include the following:  

• Expanding information and Assistance Centers for Mexican (CIAM) citizens abroad to include additional locations in Canada. CIAM currently provides services and information to Mexican citizens living in the U.S.  
• Introducing a new service for scheduling appointments at Mexican consulates. 
• Creating translation service support for five different indigenous languages.  
• Adding additional training for staff to continue to improve customer service at all consular service offices.  
• Updating services for applying for a consular ID Card. Applicants are no longer required to apply for a consular ID card at the consulate that corresponds to their home address. Instead, consular ID cards can now be obtained at any consulate, regardless of the individual’s address in the U.S. 

What are the Changes?  

The government of Mexico added additional costumer support measures to its services offered at Mexican consular service offices throughout North America. According to the government announcement, these measures will be implemented during the next several weeks at Mexico’s consulates in North America.
