New Zealand: Additional Assistance for Foreign Nationals Impacted by Extreme Weather

Overview  

The government of New Zealand introduced several measures for foreign nationals traveling to or currently residing in the country who are impacted by Cyclone Gabrielle. These measures include the following:

• Encouraging foreign nationals to contact local immigration authorities if a visa extension is required due to flight cancellations and travel delays.  
• Delayed the Expression of Interest (EOI) draw for foreign nationals applying under the Skilled Migrant worker category. The next draw will take place on 22 February 2023.  

The government advised that visa processing delays may take place as a result of reduced staff capacity in several offices across the country.

The New Zealand government has implemented several measures aimed at foreign nationals who are affected by Cyclone Gabrielle, whether they are in the country or traveling to it.
