New Zealand: Increased Visa Wage Thresholds

Key Points

  • New Zealand announced new wage threshold requirements that will align with the median wage of NZD$31.61 per hour

Overview

On 28 February 2024, the government of New Zealand will increase the visa wage thresholds to align with the median wage of NZD$31.61 per hour. This affects various visa categories, including the Skilled Migrant Category and certain work visas. The Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) will remain at NZD$29.66 per hour.

The adjustment also impacts AEWV-linked visas from February 2023. The pause allows the exploration of alternative approaches to address labor needs. Existing AEWV holders can still accrue work experience for Skilled Residence, but future applicants must meet the higher threshold. Median wage data from Stats NZ are referenced.
