Portugal: Social Security Enrolment Requirements

  • Portugal introduced new requirements for foreign nationals applying for a Social Security Enrolment Number  

Overview  

The government of Portugal will require foreign nationals to provide proof of a valid residence permit when applying for a Social Security Enrolment Number (NISS). According to the government the following documents will be accepted:  

  • Proof of residence permit application or residence visa for CPLP citizens. 
  • Certificate of Residence Permit for CPLP citizens. 
  • Required documents include an ID card or passport, employment contract in Portugal, and personal identification data.
