Qatar: Mandatory Health Insurance Requirements for Visitor Visas

Overview  

The government of Qatar will implement the first phase of its mandatory Health Insurance Scheme on 1 February 2023. The scheme will require all visitors to the country to obtain health insurance from a Qatari-registered health insurance company.  

According to the government, the insurance policy for visitors must cover emergency and accidental services only, with a premium of 50 Qatari Riyals per month at the initial issuance and upon extension of the visa. The process for obtaining health insurance will be added as an additional step in the visitor visa application process or visitor visa extension process.

What are the Changes? 

Effective 1 February 2023, the government of Qatar will require foreign nationals applying for a visitor visa or renewing visitor visas to also obtain health insurance. According to the announcement, the scheme aims to regulate health insurance and improve accessibility to health services throughout the country.
