Quebec, Canada Updates Requirements for Simplified LMIA Applications
Key Points
- Quebec, Canada has cut its Simplified LMIA occupation list from 267 to 76, focusing on high-demand sectors
Quebec Update: Significant Changes to Simplified LMIA Occupation List
Quebec, Canada announced a reduction in the number of occupations eligible for Quebec’s simplified Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) process. The list has been narrowed from 267 occupations to just 76, effective immediately. This update removes jobs requiring little to no formal education, while prioritizing high-demand fields such as engineering, IT, healthcare, construction and education.
The Simplified LMIA process allows employers to hire foreign workers for certain roles without proof of recruitment efforts, unlike the standard process. With the revised list, some Quebec employers seeking to renew or hire foreign workers may no longer qualify for fast-track LMIA processing and could face longer timelines or stricter requirements.
