Slovakia: New Immigration Legislation

  • Slovakia introduced new immigration and employment legislation on 15 July 2024  

Immigration Changes  

The government of Slovakia introduced new immigration legislation on 15 July 2024. The legislation includes the following changes:  

  • Employers must electronically submit a “Request for Confirmation on the Possibility to Fill a Vacancy.”  
  • Foreign nationals can start working once a complete application is submitted, with processing times shortened from 90 to 60 days.  
  • Blue Cards will be valid for five years, with new salary and educational requirements.  
  • Long-Term Residence Permit applicants must prove Slovak language knowledge at level A2 starting 15 July 2025.  
  • Various permits now require bank account statements for the last three months.  
  • Certain applications for a change of purpose will only be possible through Slovak embassies abroad.
