The United Arab Emirates: Mandatory Insurance Program for 2025
Key Points
- The United Arab Emirates released plans to introduce a mandatory requirement for foreign nationals to obtain an insurance program beginning in 2025
Implementation of Insurance Program Requirements
The government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will introduce a mandatory insurance program for all private sector employees and domestic workers starting 1 January 2025. This new scheme will be implemented nationwide, expanding the mandatory plans in Abu Dhabi and Dubai only.
- In Abu Dhabi, employers must provide coverage for employees and their families, including one spouse and up to three children under 18 years old.
- In Dubai, employers must offer a health insurance program for their employees, while employees are responsible for registering their family members.
It’s currently unclear whether the nationwide program will require employers to provide health insurance for employees’ family members. Employers will need to secure a healthcare package for their employees as part of the process of issuing or renewing residency permits.
