The United Kingdom: Upcoming Immigration Fee Increases

Key Points

  • The government of the United Kingdom will significantly increase certain immigration fees by around 15 to 20 percent

Overview

The government of the United Kingdom (UK) will significantly increase certain immigration fees as a result of budgeting changes.

According to the government, the cost of work and visit visas will increase by around 15 percent, while the cost of study visas, certificates of sponsorship, settlement, citizenship, entry clearance, leave to remain and priority visas will increase by at least 20 percent.

In addition, the government will equalize costs for students and other foreign nationals using a priority visa service so that the cost is equal for applicants located inside and outside of the UK.

The government will increase immigration health surcharges to £1,035 per year of the visa, with a discounted rate of £776 for students (including applicants under the country’s Youth Mobility schemes) and individuals under the age of 18.

What are the Changes?

The UK government will increase immigration-related fees. According to the government announcement, the increased costs will partly fund public sector pay increases.

Looking Ahead

The government has not yet announced the exact date for when these new fees will go into effect.
